Background of the Study
Political ideology, the set of beliefs and values that shape political behavior, plays a crucial role in influencing grassroots mobilization. In Abule Egba Local Government Area, Lagos State, divergent political ideologies have spurred various forms of civic engagement and activism (Adewale, 2023). Grassroots mobilization in this context is characterized by community-based initiatives that seek to address local issues through collective action. Political ideologies provide the framework for understanding these issues and for rallying support around specific policy agendas (Folarin, 2024). However, ideological polarization can also lead to fragmented movements and conflict within communities, thereby impacting the effectiveness of mobilization efforts (Oluwatobi, 2025). This study explores how different political ideologies influence the organization, strategies, and outcomes of grassroots mobilization in Abule Egba. By examining community mobilization activities, public discourse, and electoral participation, the research seeks to uncover the extent to which ideological factors drive or hinder collective action at the local level. The findings are expected to contribute to a deeper understanding of the role of ideology in shaping civic engagement and local political dynamics.

Statement of the Problem
Despite the recognized influence of political ideology on civic engagement, Abule Egba Local Government Area experiences significant challenges in sustaining unified grassroots mobilization. Ideological differences among community members often lead to internal divisions, reducing the overall impact of mobilization efforts (Adewale, 2023). The resulting fragmentation undermines collective action and limits the ability of communities to effectively advocate for their interests (Folarin, 2024). This study aims to examine how conflicting political ideologies within Abule Egba affect grassroots mobilization, with a focus on understanding the barriers to cohesive collective action and the implications for local political participation (Oluwatobi, 2025).

Objectives of the Study:

  1. To examine the influence of political ideology on grassroots mobilization in Abule Egba.

  2. To identify challenges arising from ideological divisions in community activism.

  3. To propose measures to foster cohesive grassroots mobilization.

Research Questions:

  1. How does political ideology shape grassroots mobilization in Abule Egba?

  2. What are the major challenges posed by ideological divisions?

  3. What strategies can promote unified community action?

Research Hypotheses:

  1. H1: Political ideology significantly influences the effectiveness of grassroots mobilization.

  2. H2: Ideological fragmentation weakens community mobilization efforts.

  3. H3: Strategies that promote ideological inclusivity enhance collective action.

Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it investigates the impact of political ideology on grassroots mobilization in Abule Egba. The insights gained will inform community leaders and policymakers on how to bridge ideological divides and strengthen civic engagement at the local level. The findings will contribute to developing strategies for more unified and effective grassroots movements, thereby promoting a more participatory local political environment (Adewale, 2023).

Scope and Limitations of the Study:
This study is limited to exploring the impact of political ideology on grassroots mobilization within Abule Egba Local Government Area, Lagos State, focusing exclusively on local community dynamics.

Definitions of Terms:

  1. Political Ideology: A system of beliefs that shapes political behavior and values.

  2. Grassroots Mobilization: Community-driven efforts aimed at collective action for local issues.

  3. Civic Engagement: The participation of citizens in the political and community life.
